After years of making guitar pickups I've come to the conclusion that most players know exacly what they want. Rather than offer you an array of ever so slightly different variations on this classic design I thought it'd be best to let you pick and choose the exact specifications that you need to acheive your perfect sound. Simply use the pull down menus to select your ideal magnet strength, coil wire insulation, DC resistance output values and level of wax-potting to create a Jazz Bass pickup that is truly on of a kind.

Tapped singlecoils (not to be confused with split humbuckers) have 2 live wires, each offering a different DC resistance output. Attach both these wires to a toggle switch and you'll be able to jump between vintage and vintage-hot tones from your pickup. I allow you to choose the DC resisitance output for both of these settings.

In order to hear a significant difference between the low and high settings of a bass pickup you actually have to increase the output a lot more than you might think.

For a significantly rounder, fuller, bolder tone I'd recommend adding up to 5.0kΩ for the neck position and up to 7.0kΩ for the bridge (For example you could have a neck pickup with a low setting of 7.5kΩ and a high setting of 12.5kΩ). This will create a noticeable difference in the character of your instrument and is almost like having 2 basses in 1.

If you're looking for a subtle boost to your signal you could of course opt for a lower DC resistance output to be added between both live terminals.

Please ensure that, when both live 1 and live 2 DC resistance outputs are combined that your specification does not exceed the following values:

17.0kΩ for bridge pickups

14.5Ωk for neck pickups

42-awg coil wire will be used wherever possible, however, the use of 43-awg will be necessary for higher DC resistance output specifications. Email before placing your order for special requests.

When selecting your level of wax-potting consider that a light potting means that the wax is kept away from the centre of the coil which will result in enhanced dynamics whereas a full potting soaks the entire coil with wax which will provide extra protection against unwanted feedback when playing at high volume.

To ensure RWRP bridge pickups will read north up and will be wound anti-clockwise from earth to live. Neck pickups will read south up and be wound clockwise from earth to live. Leave a note if you would like to change any of these details.

If you are looking to purchase a set you will have to add a bridge and neck pickup to your basket seperately - choosing your neck pickup DC resistance output to be approx 15% lower than the bridge pickup output is recommended to create a balanced set.
